Becker Hits New Heights

Benjamin Becker's last few weeks have been nothing short of noteworthy. After reaching the semifinals of the ATP event in Delray Beach, Becker became a top 50 player in what is still his first year competing on the Tour level.

BB then left for Europe to represent Germany in the first round of the 2007 Davis Cup World Group. Although Benjamin lost to Ljubcic and Cilic the German team captured the tie and will next play Belgium. It was a dream come true for Becker to represent his country. On top of that Benjamin finally had the chance to spend quality time with his idol and namesake Boris Becker.

Finally, after a long trip to California and playing while clearly exhausted BB found his form and won two tough 3-setters before defeating convincingly Marat Safin to reach his second consecutive semifinal. Although BB came up one round short of the final he continued his progress up the rankings and beat another former World #1.

With another win in Memphis over Robert Kendrick, BB became the newest member of the ATP's top 40! Benjamin is now topping out at 38 as he prepares for the upcoming Masters Series events in Palm Springs and Miami.

Take a look at Benjamin's recently upgraded website which contains original news and stories about Becker, as well as a forum for fans to interact.

Davis Cuppers on the RTM Team

Benjamin Becker is the newest member of the ATP's top 50 after reaching the semifinals of the ATP event last week in Delray Beach. After giving James Blake a very tough match, Blake had nothing but praise for Becker's game and potential to be a top player on the Tour.

Tomorrow Becker will have the chance to live out one of his childhood dreams as he competes in front of his home crowd representing Germany in Davis Cup. His opponent, Ivan Ljubcic, is a perennial top 10 player and Becker will need to stay poised under pressure to come out on top. Becker has shown that these are the occasions that bring out his best tennis when considering his dramatic victory over Agassi at the US Open and his five-set loss to Safin in the Australian Open.

Coverage of this exciting first round Davis Cup Tie will be shown on The Tennis Channel at 8AM EST Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

In addition to Becker, Horia Tecau will be representing Romania as they face a very tough France Team. Horia will be playing doubles with Andrei Pavel.
