Indian Davis Cup team leaves for Chinese Taipei


New Delhi: Indian Davis Cup team leaves tonight for Chinese Taipei to take on the hosts in the second round tie of the Asia/Oceania Group I, beginning from March 6.

India got a bye in the first round while Chinese Taipei had stunned Kazakhstan in their first round.

It will be a first meeting for the two teams, who are bidding for a place in the final round, the winners of which will qualify for the World Group I play-offs.

Somdev Devvarman and Rohan Bopanna will play in the singles while star pair of Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi will take care of doubles challenge.

India non-playing captain Shiv Prakash Misra was confident his team's good show.

"We are going with a positive frame of mind. We have good singles player in Somdev and (Leander) Paes and (Mahesh) Bhupathi are very dangerous pair," Misra told PTI before departure.

"We are a very good Davis Cup team and I am hoping for a favourable result for India," he added.
