Flavia Pennetta named best female athlete in Italy - behind Juventus football player Del Piero on the overall poll
 Flavia Pennetta picked second on the overall poll of Best Athletes in Italy during 2008. Within female Italian athletes, she was voted the best. Please find below the overall poll: 1 - Alex Del Piero (Juventus - football) 31% 2 - Flavia Pennetta 25% 3 - Marco Simoncelli (motorcycle world champion) 12% Flavia will be in action this coming week in Perth, Australia playing for Italy in the Hopman Cup, alongside with Simone Bolelli. Their first round match will be against Russia, which will be represented by the siblings Marat Safin and Dinara Safina. Flavia will use the Hopman Cup as preparation for Hobart, a $220,000 event where Flavia is the #1 seed. Following Hobart she will be in action at the 1st Grand Slam event of the year, the Australian Open.
